Integrated Voyage Hedging
A real-world example
Imagine a customer planning to ship cargo along a specific route who wants to hedge the entire shipment and fix costs on a voyage basis. CSC’s trading desk can produce a single price that incorporates:
- Freight costs: calculated using ship speed, weather assumptions, port congestion, and current time-charter rates.
- Bunker costs: derived from sailing time, fuel consumption rates, and prevailing bunker fuel prices.
- Emissions offset costs: based on projected emissions and regulatory obligations at both departure and arrival ports.
All three components, ship charter, bunker fuel, and emissions offsets, can be hedged or sourced independently through CSC’s market-making capabilities. This enables a tailored, bundled solution for the counterparty, leveraging the full breadth of our platform.
